A researcher from Duke University will discuss how insight can be discovered in complex data through the use of interactive data visualization. This case study will address how Duke University deployed a combination of data analytics and visualization techniques to leverage clinical research for practice assessment and quality improvement.

“Data are widely available; what is scarce is the ability to extract wisdom from them,” Google, Chief Economist. While technology allows us to cost effectively capture more data, quite often we do not have the time or appropriate resources to make sense of it all.

Visual data discovery is an emerging method for understanding complex data. This seminar will demonstrate how an interactive data visualization approach, based on neuroscience, allows users to quite literally see patterns, trends and anomalies in the data. Researchers at a major cancer institute have recently complimented the approach’s ability to let us see all of the data in one place.
